Choosing An Attorney

After a serious accident, the last thing most people want to think about is getting legal representation. However, the early involvement of a qualified personal injury attorney can lay the groundwork for getting all the proper financial recovery your claim deserves, and that the law allows.

In fact, most serious injury cases require time and money to properly investigate. Most cases have limits (known as “statutes of limitations”) on the amount of time you can wait to make a claim or file a lawsuit. The insurance company representing the person or company who harmed you will not wait. It will have investigators, adjusters, and attorneys working right away to limit how much money it may have to pay on the claim. Hiring the right attorney is a crucial first step to recovering from an accident.

After a serious accident, lawyer names may come at you from many sources. Roby & Manges Law Firm does not advertise on TV, billboards or by direct mail solicitation, but many firms do. Before you choose a lawyer, find out as much as you can about the law firm. Most give free consultations. Most responsible law firms will not pressure you into making a decision, and will understand if you wish to compare services. Ask the following questions:

  • Is personal injury your only business?
  • Are all of your firm’s attorneys members of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association (ITLA) and the American Association for Justice (AAJ)?
  • Does the firm have the highest rating in the Martindale-Hubbell legal directory (as rated by other lawyers)?
  • Do other lawyers refer personal injury and wrongful death cases to you?
  • Do you lecture and write articles on personal injury topics for other lawyers, and members of the general public?
  • Are you willing to advance expenses necessary to investigate and pursue my case if I don’t have the money?
  • Do you use professional investigators, engineers, doctors, nurses, and scientists to investigate and pursue claims?
  • Will I be able to speak to the attorney handling my case instead of just staff?
  • Will the attorney handling my case answer my calls, return my messages, or respond to my e-mails within 48 hours?
  • Does the firm have experienced attorneys widely recognized by their peers for their wisdom, as well as attorneys able to use the latest technology to prove my case?
  • Will the attorneys make house calls?
  • Do the attorneys have personal injury trial experience?

Roby & Manges Law Firm would say “yes” to all of these questions
